About the role
Virgin Forest Energy Limited is a Nigerian energy downstream oil trading company seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized Account Officer to join their team in Lagos.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial and accounting records.
- Record and process daily financial transactions, including invoices, receipts, payments, and expenses.
- Prepare and maintain ledgers, journals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and management accounts.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable and ensure timely settlement and collection.
- Assist with budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and financial forecasting.
- Monitor company expenses and ensure proper documentation and approvals.
- Prepare invoices, payment schedules, and other financial documentation.
- Support payroll processing and other finance-related administrative activities when required.
- Assist with tax computations, statutory filings, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records for audit purposes.
- Assist with internal and external audits and provide required financial information.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify discrepancies, financial risks, and control weaknesses and escalate appropriately.
- Provide financial information and administrative support to management when required.
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN/ACCA is an advantage.
- Previous experience in an Oil & Gas, Engineering, Construction, or corporate environment is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Good understanding of Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with accounting software/ERP systems is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
