About the role

Role Overview

The Safeguarding Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the NiWEMA programme's safeguarding framework across its full operational scope, engaging 750,000 participants over five years through both online and physical delivery models. The role involves managing safeguarding risks in a large-scale field-based programme with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review a comprehensive NiWEMA Safeguarding Policy and procedures.
  • Design differentiated safeguarding risk frameworks for online and physical delivery streams.
  • Establish and manage a confidential reporting and response mechanism.
  • Conduct safeguarding due diligence on implementing partners.
  • Monitor implementing partner compliance through field audits.
  • Design and deliver safeguarding training for all staff and partners.
  • Conduct safeguarding risk assessments for physical events and activities.
  • Manage safeguarding concerns and incidents, referring to appropriate authorities.
  • Ensure safeguarding principles are embedded in all programme materials.
  • Maintain records and produce reports for project leadership and funders.
  • Collaborate with the Gender Lead to integrate gender and safeguarding approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Development Studies, Law, or related field.
  • Minimum of 6–8 years' experience in safeguarding, child protection, or related fields.
  • Experience in large-scale field-based programme delivery.
  • Experience in developing safeguarding frameworks for programs with implementing partners.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian safeguarding laws, regulations, and referral pathways.
  • Safeguarding or child protection certification from a recognized institution.
  • Experience conducting field-based safeguarding assessments and audits.
  • Strong ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
