About the role

General Accountant

Jemi Neil Consulting is seeking a detail-oriented General Accountant to oversee accounting operations with expertise in the real estate sector.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure proper recording of all financial transactions
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards
  • Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare and analyze management reports, cash flow statements, and financial performance reports
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
  • Monitor project costs, property-related expenses, and revenue recognition for real estate developments
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization and depreciation schedules
  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
  • Ensure timely filing and remittance of taxes (VAT, WHT, PAYE, and statutory obligations)
  • Coordinate external audits and provide required documentation and support
  • Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies for working capital management
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Support management with financial analysis and decision-making processes
  • Liaise with banks, regulatory authorities, auditors, and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Professional certification (ACA, ACCA, or ICAN) required
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in real estate, property development, or construction sector
  • Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, project accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Proficiency in accounting software/ERP systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial modeling, and reporting)
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
