About the role
General Accountant
Jemi Neil Consulting is seeking a detail-oriented General Accountant to oversee accounting operations with expertise in the real estate sector.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure proper recording of all financial transactions
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards
- Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Prepare and analyze management reports, cash flow statements, and financial performance reports
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
- Monitor project costs, property-related expenses, and revenue recognition for real estate developments
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization and depreciation schedules
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
- Ensure timely filing and remittance of taxes (VAT, WHT, PAYE, and statutory obligations)
- Coordinate external audits and provide required documentation and support
- Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies for working capital management
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
- Support management with financial analysis and decision-making processes
- Liaise with banks, regulatory authorities, auditors, and other stakeholders
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional certification (ACA, ACCA, or ICAN) required
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- At least 3 years of experience in real estate, property development, or construction sector
- Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, project accounting, and revenue recognition
- Proficiency in accounting software/ERP systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial modeling, and reporting)
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
