Category Controller - Beauty, Grooming & Fragrance

The Category Controller is responsible for managing the beauty, grooming and fragrance category within SPAR, focusing on sales, margin, assortment, pricing, promotions, stock management, supplier relationships, and store execution. The role involves planning, analysis, and strategic decision-making to drive category performance and meet business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review annual category plans, including sales, margin, stock turns, inventory and ageing targets.
• Manage assortment, pricing, promotions, and CATMAN implementation across sub-categories and store types.
• Monitor and optimize stock availability, turnover, and shrinkage.
• Negotiate with suppliers and manage supplier performance.
• Visit stores to ensure product availability, presentation, and compliance.

Requirements

• Minimum of a First Degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, Pharmacy, Cosmetic Science or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of category management or buying experience in Modern retail / FMCG, with at least 3 years in Beauty, Personal Care, Grooming or Fragrance.
• Proven experience in supplier negotiation, assortment, pricing, promotions, demand planning, and stock management.
• Strong Excel, BI, and ERP skills; Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience is an advantage.
• Good knowledge of branded and imported merchandise, product authenticity, expiry and regulatory controls.
