Assistant Accountant

The Paper Packaging Company seeks a full-time Assistant Accountant to support the finance team with day-to-day accounting operations in Abuja. You will record financial transactions, maintain ledgers, assist with accounts payable and receivable, and prepare reconciliations and financial reports.

Responsibilities

• Record financial transactions and maintain general ledgers
• Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes
• Prepare basic reconciliations and financial reports
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities
• Organize and maintain financial documentation
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards
• Collaborate with senior finance staff and respond to internal queries
• Maintain accurate, timely financial records to support organizational decision-making

Requirements

• Strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger entries
• Experience with bank reconciliations and basic financial reporting
• Proficiency with accounting software, Excel/Spreadsheets, and ERP systems
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality
• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Prior experience in an accounting or finance support role (ideally in manufacturing, FMCG, or sustainability-focused organizations)
• Genuine interest in sustainability and The Paper Packaging Company's mission
• Professional certification or progress toward certification (ICAN, ACA, ACCA) is advantageous
