Role Overview
The Mathematics Teacher at Discovering Talents Academy is responsible for delivering engaging and effective mathematics instruction to primary school pupils. This role involves fostering a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, developing problem-solving skills, and nurturing a positive attitude towards the subject.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging mathematics lessons in accordance with DTA's blended British-Nigerian curriculum and academic standards.
- Implement DTA's SHRID niche, particularly focusing on Skill Acquisition in numeracy, Individualized Teaching to cater to diverse learning styles, and promoting clear Diction in mathematical communication.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technology to make mathematics accessible and enjoyable for all pupils.
- Set clear learning objectives and provide constructive feedback to students to support their progress.
- Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations, including entrance examinations.
- Design and administer fair, valid, and reliable assessments (tests, quizzes, continuous assessments) to evaluate student understanding and progress in mathematics.
- Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps, inform instructional adjustments, and provide targeted support to students.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, performance, and grades.
- Prepare comprehensive progress reports for parents, highlighting academic achievements and areas for development.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment conducive to mathematical exploration and learning.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure an orderly and respectful learning atmosphere.
- Encourage active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving among students.
- Ensure the classroom is well-resourced and organized to support mathematics instruction.
- Monitor the academic and social-emotional well-being of students, identifying and addressing any concerns promptly.
- Provide individualized support and interventions for students who require additional assistance in mathematics.
- Collaborate with parents, support staff, and other teachers to ensure holistic development and address student needs.
- Serve as a Form Tutor/Class Teacher as assigned, overseeing general welfare and academic progress of a designated class, which may include teaching other subjects.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, school-wide professional development sessions, and training programs.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, develop curriculum materials, and enhance the overall academic program.
- Contribute to school events and activities as required.
- Utilize the DTA software for academic tracking, communication, and appraisal processes.
- Strictly adhere to all DTA policies and procedures, including those related to punctuality, dress code, safety, and ethical conduct.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Education, Pure/Applied Mathematics, or a related field with a strong emphasis on pedagogy.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) is an added advantage.
- 2-4 years of proven experience teaching Mathematics at the primary school level.
- Experience with a blended British-Nigerian curriculum is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of primary school mathematics curriculum, concepts, and teaching methodologies.
- Proficient in using educational technology, interactive whiteboards, and relevant software for teaching mathematics.
- Experience with school management software (e.g., DTA software) is an advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex mathematical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
