Senior Accountant

Terawork is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join the Finance team in Port Harcourt. You will oversee general ledger maintenance, ensure statutory compliance, and lead a team of four direct reports in a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head of Accounts in preparing monthly and annual financial statements and drive the GL closing process within 5 working days
• Perform monthly Cost of Sales to Inventory reconciliations and investigate gross margin variances and stock losses
• Ensure timely filing and payment of all tax obligations (VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT) and manage the audit trail for regulatory reviews
• Supervise, train, and review the work of accounting officers to ensure accuracy and procedural standardisation
• Recommend system enhancements and process improvements to increase financial efficiency and control

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• ICA or ACCA qualification (mandatory)
• Minimum 7 years in accounting, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory capacity
• Proven experience in retail, supermarket, or FMCG environments handling high transaction volumes
• Deep knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations
• Proficiency in QuickBooks (or similar ERP) and advanced Excel/analytical skills
