Legal / Administrative Officer
Sevan Construction Nigeria Limited is seeking a Legal/Administrative Officer to manage legal and administrative tasks, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. The role involves drafting and reviewing contracts, managing documentation, and supporting the company in minimizing legal exposure.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and assist in negotiating contracts, agreements, purchase orders, service agreements, subcontractor agreements, leases, and other legal documents.
- Review contracts relating to steel fabrication, construction projects, equipment supply, installation, maintenance, and subcontracting.
- Ensure that contractual obligations, deadlines, deliverables, warranties, payment terms, and liabilities are properly identified and monitored.
- Provide management with advice on legal and contractual risks affecting the company's operations.
- Maintain an organized register of all company contracts and legal documents.
- Assist in handling disputes, claims, demands, notices, and correspondence involving clients, contractors, suppliers, employees, and other parties.
- Liaise with external solicitors, consultants, government agencies, regulators, and other professional advisers when required.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws, regulations, permits, licences, and statutory requirements affecting the company's business.
- Support the company in ensuring compliance with employment, health and safety, environmental, tax, corporate, construction, and other applicable regulations.
- Assist with company registrations, licences, permits, renewals, and statutory filings.
- Prepare and review official letters, legal notices, undertakings, memoranda, and other corporate correspondence.
- Maintain confidentiality and proper custody of sensitive legal and corporate documents.
- Assist management in minimizing legal exposure and protecting the company's interests.
- Maintain accurate physical and electronic records, including contracts, correspondence, personnel files, licences, certificates, and company documents.
- Support the preparation and processing of company documentation relating to projects, tenders, quotations, invoices, purchase orders, and other business activities.
- Maintain proper filing systems and ensure documents are easily accessible and securely stored.
- Assist the Human Resources function with employee documentation, onboarding, leave records, disciplinary documentation, and other administrative matters.
- Ensure company policies and administrative procedures are properly communicated and implemented.
- Review administrative and contractual documentation relating to fabrication and construction projects.
- Monitor contractual milestones and assist in ensuring that required notices and documentation are submitted within stipulated deadlines.
- Assist with documentation relating to subcontractors, suppliers, fabricators, installers, and other project partners.
- Support the resolution and documentation of contractual issues arising from delays, defective work, variations, non-payment, delivery issues, or changes in project scope.
- Maintain proper records of project-related agreements and correspondence for future reference and audit purposes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in law (LL.B) or a related field.
- A professional qualification such as BL and/or relevant professional membership is an advantage.
- Additional qualifications in business administration, corporate governance, compliance, or contract management will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–4 years' relevant experience in legal, administrative, corporate, construction, engineering, manufacturing, or related industries.
- Experience in contract administration or a construction/engineering environment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of commercial contracts, employment matters, regulatory compliance, and corporate documentation is an advantage.
