About the role
Dispensing Officer
The Dispensing Officer is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of prescription and over-the-counter medications. The role involves verifying prescriptions, preparing medications, maintaining accurate records, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations while providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and process prescriptions for accuracy and completeness
- Dispense medications according to approved prescriptions and standard operating procedures
- Label medications correctly with dosage instructions, warnings, and patient information
- Counsel patients or customers on proper use, dosage, storage, and possible side effects of medications
- Maintain accurate dispensing records and patient profiles
- Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and storing pharmaceutical products
- Ensure proper storage conditions for medicines, including temperature-sensitive products
- Check medication expiry dates and remove expired or damaged products from stock
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dispensing area
- Ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP), company policies, and regulatory requirements
- Report medication errors, adverse drug reactions, or quality concerns promptly
- Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to resolve prescription-related issues
- Participate in regular stock counts and inventory audits
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information
Requirements
- OND, HND, Diploma in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology, or related health science field
- 2–6 years of experience
- Valid professional registration or license (where required by local regulations)
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical products and dispensing procedures
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
- Computer literacy and familiarity with pharmacy management software
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Good problem-solving and teamwork abilities
Salary
N150,000 – N200,000 per month
