About the role

Sales Team Lead / Sales Manager

Hapag-Lloyd AG is seeking a Sales Team Lead / Sales Manager to develop, secure, and maintain profitable business relationships with customers across Nigeria.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage sales budgets within designated territory
  • Solicit potential customers and develop existing customer accounts
  • Evaluate customer potential and conduct MR sales planning
  • Develop sales pipelines aligned with company objectives to optimize vessel utilization
  • Create and maintain account plans (pursuit plans)
  • Log appointments and client contacts in CRM systems
  • Conduct monthly volume planning cycles by customer and trade relations
  • Manage and grow customer portfolio and sales opportunities
  • Handle MR and GEO customer coverage as defined by sales steering
  • Conclude contracts for MR customers (proposal, negotiation, closing)
  • Record commitments and track tenders
  • Drive CU business for foreign MRs adhering to push-pull process
  • Coordinate credit applications with Sales Management and Finance
  • Prepare, conduct, and follow up on customer visits with reporting
  • Provide market feedback and pricing information to sales coordination
  • Complete weekly activity reports for discussion with line manager
  • Perform additional sales-related tasks as requested

Requirements

  • University degree
  • Minimum 5–7 years of specific commercial experience, preferably in maritime sector
  • Prior experience or advanced knowledge of Northern and Eastern Nigeria markets
  • Strong sales mentality with proactive approach
  • Excellent negotiation and closing skills
  • Team player with strong communication abilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Scout, Compass, FIS, SAM systems
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Assertive negotiator with result-driven mindset
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Capacity for self-criticism and flexibility
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
