About the role
Sales Team Lead / Sales Manager
Hapag-Lloyd AG is seeking a Sales Team Lead / Sales Manager to develop, secure, and maintain profitable business relationships with customers across Nigeria.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage sales budgets within designated territory
- Solicit potential customers and develop existing customer accounts
- Evaluate customer potential and conduct MR sales planning
- Develop sales pipelines aligned with company objectives to optimize vessel utilization
- Create and maintain account plans (pursuit plans)
- Log appointments and client contacts in CRM systems
- Conduct monthly volume planning cycles by customer and trade relations
- Manage and grow customer portfolio and sales opportunities
- Handle MR and GEO customer coverage as defined by sales steering
- Conclude contracts for MR customers (proposal, negotiation, closing)
- Record commitments and track tenders
- Drive CU business for foreign MRs adhering to push-pull process
- Coordinate credit applications with Sales Management and Finance
- Prepare, conduct, and follow up on customer visits with reporting
- Provide market feedback and pricing information to sales coordination
- Complete weekly activity reports for discussion with line manager
- Perform additional sales-related tasks as requested
Requirements
- University degree
- Minimum 5–7 years of specific commercial experience, preferably in maritime sector
- Prior experience or advanced knowledge of Northern and Eastern Nigeria markets
- Strong sales mentality with proactive approach
- Excellent negotiation and closing skills
- Team player with strong communication abilities
- Proficiency in MS Office, Scout, Compass, FIS, SAM systems
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Assertive negotiator with result-driven mindset
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Capacity for self-criticism and flexibility
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
