About the role

Maternity Administrative Manager (H.O.D)

St. Dominic Catholic Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Midwife to lead the Maternity Unit as Head of Department. You will oversee clinical and administrative operations, manage staff, and ensure quality maternal and neonatal care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all maternity unit activities
  • Provide quality maternal and newborn nursing/midwifery care per professional standards
  • Oversee labour, delivery, antenatal, postnatal, and emergency maternity services
  • Monitor documentation and patient record management
  • Prepare and manage staff duty rosters and departmental scheduling
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nurses, midwives, and nurse assistants
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and ethical standards
  • Coordinate staff training, departmental meetings, and continuous professional development
  • Monitor patient care standards and address complaints promptly
  • Collaborate with doctors, laboratory, pharmacy, and other departments
  • Maintain adequate inventory and proper utilization of maternity equipment and supplies
  • Facilitate effective communication and teamwork within the department
  • Participate in hospital management meetings and provide departmental reports
  • Promote compassionate, respectful, patient-centered care

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) qualification
  • Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council practicing license
  • 5–10 years of experience in maternity or obstetric care
  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience (highly preferred)
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Excellent knowledge of maternal and neonatal healthcare practices
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability
  • Good documentation and administrative skills
  • Professionalism, empathy, and emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies efficiently
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong commitment to quality healthcare and patient safety
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Salary

₦200,000 – ₦500,000 monthly
