About the role
Laboratory Technician
Responsible for receiving, processing, and handling patient specimens, performing laboratory investigations, and maintaining laboratory equipment and records. Must adhere to biosafety and confidentiality protocols.
Responsibilities
- Receive, label, process, and properly handle patient specimens.
- Perform routine laboratory investigations within the approved scope of practice.
- Assist with sample collection, preparation, and processing.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.
- Prepare reagents and other materials required for laboratory investigations.
- Assist with quality control procedures and ensure accurate test results.
- Maintain proper laboratory records, registers, and documentation.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of specimens and laboratory waste.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and orderliness within the laboratory.
- Adhere strictly to infection prevention, biosafety, confidentiality, and laboratory procedures.
- Report equipment faults, abnormal results, or other concerns promptly to the Medical Laboratory Scientist/Supervisor.
- Work effectively with other members of the laboratory and healthcare team.
Requirements
- BSC/HND in Medical Laboratory Technology or a relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
- 1–2 years relevant experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory is an advantage.
- Valid registration and practising licence with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), where applicable.
