About the role
Accountant at Deloitte
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, prepare comprehensive financial reports, and ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulations for our organization.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records including general ledger entries, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and balance sheet accounts, investigating discrepancies
- Process invoices and payments to vendors with proper documentation and approvals
- Manage accounts receivable including invoicing, payment tracking, and follow-up on outstanding balances
- Maintain and update the general ledger with proper transaction recording and classification
- Assist in budget development and provide periodic financial forecasts
- Monitor financial performance against budgets, identifying and analyzing variances
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian accounting principles, tax laws, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, etc.)
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional accounting certification (ICAN or ACCA) required
- MBA or MSc in Finance/Accounting is an added advantage
Experience:
- Minimum 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience in a dynamic industry
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems is essential
- Media industry experience is a plus
Knowledge & Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of IFRS and accounting principles
- Understanding of Nigerian tax laws and statutory reporting requirements
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient in financial data analysis and interpretation
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong work ethic, integrity, and professionalism
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
