Healthcare Underwriter

An underwriter evaluates insurance applications, assesses medical risk factors, and calculates appropriate premium rates for individuals and corporate clients to ensure business profitability and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate medical histories, pre-existing conditions, and demographic data to determine risk levels of prospective enrollees
• Calculate accurate premium rates, define benefit limits, and structure custom healthcare plans for corporate organizations and individual enrollees
• Assess and review renewal policies to adjust pricing based on utilization, claims history, and inflation
• Collaborate with medical and provider network teams to analyze hospital tariffs, healthcare service costs, and provider capacities
• Ensure all health plan packages align with statutory guidelines set by the NHIA and corporate underwriting frameworks

Requirements

• B.Sc./HND in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a health-related discipline
• 2–3 years of cognate experience in a similar risk analysis or underwriting role within the Nigerian healthcare or insurance sector
• Strong analytical capabilities
• Proficiency in risk profiling
• Excellent data interpretation skills
• Advanced MS Office knowledge (especially Excel)

Salary

Negotiable based on years of experience and work proficiency.
