Job Summary
The Security Operative is responsible for safeguarding the hotel's guests, employees, visitors, contractors, assets, facilities, and property by maintaining a visible security presence, preventing security breaches, controlling access, monitoring activities, and responding promptly to incidents. The role ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment that reflects the standards of a superior luxury hotel.
Responsibilities
- Protect the lives, property, and assets of the hotel, guests, employees, and visitors.
- Maintain a visible and professional security presence throughout the hotel.
- Monitor assigned security posts and patrol areas diligently.
- Ensure compliance with the hotel's security policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Report security concerns promptly to the Security Supervisor.
- Support the Chief Security Officer in maintaining a secure environment.
- Conduct regular patrols of guest floors, public areas, restaurants, bars, conference rooms, parking areas, offices, back-of-house areas, and hotel perimeter.
- Monitor for suspicious persons, unattended items, safety hazards, and unusual activities.
- Inspect emergency exits, staircases, fire escapes, and restricted areas.
- Record patrol observations accurately in security logs.
- Report maintenance and safety issues identified during patrols.
- Control access to hotel entrances, exits, staff entrances, loading bays, and restricted areas.
- Verify identification of employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors where required.
- Ensure visitor registration procedures are followed.
- Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
- Monitor vehicle entry and exit where applicable.
- Direct guests and visitors courteously when necessary.
- Conduct baggage screening using approved screening equipment or manual inspection procedures where required.
- Inspect vehicles entering hotel premises in accordance with security procedures.
- Ensure prohibited items are not brought onto hotel premises.
- Handle screening activities professionally and respectfully.
- Escalate suspicious findings immediately.
- Welcome guests courteously while maintaining security awareness.
- Provide directions and assistance to guests and visitors.
- Respond promptly to guest requests related to safety and security.
- Assist elderly guests, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable individuals when required.
- Maintain professionalism and discretion at all times.
- Support a positive guest experience without compromising security.
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, disturbances, accidents, and security incidents.
- Assist in managing medical emergencies until appropriate responders arrive.
- Support evacuation procedures during emergencies.
- Secure incident scenes and preserve evidence where necessary.
- Prepare accurate incident reports.
- Notify supervisors immediately of significant incidents.
- Monitor compliance with fire safety procedures.
- Inspect fire exits to ensure they remain unobstructed.
- Identify potential fire hazards.
- Assist during fire drills and emergency evacuations.
- Operate basic fire-fighting equipment where trained.
- Report faulty fire safety equipment immediately.
- Prevent theft, vandalism, fraud, and unauthorized removal of hotel property.
- Monitor suspicious activities and investigate where appropriate.
- Protect guest property and hotel assets.
- Monitor loading and unloading activities.
- Report inventory theft or property damage immediately.
- Assist with investigations where required.
- Observe occupational health and safety regulations.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Support implementation of workplace safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with hotel security and safety policies.
- Promote a safe environment for guests and employees.
- Participate in health and safety awareness programmes.
- Maintain accurate security occurrence books and patrol logs.
- Prepare incident reports promptly and accurately.
- Record visitor entries and access control information.
- Maintain confidentiality of security information.
- Submit daily shift reports to supervisors.
- Report equipment faults promptly.
- Work closely with fellow security personnel and other hotel departments.
- Attend daily security briefings.
- Communicate effectively during incidents and emergencies.
- Support colleagues during busy operational periods.
- Maintain professional relationships across departments.
- Comply with all hotel policies, SOPs, and security procedures.
- Participate in mandatory security training programmes.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency response procedures.
- Recommend improvements to security operations where appropriate.
- Uphold the hotel's standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity.
Requirements
- Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent.
- National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Security Management, Criminology, Public Administration, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hotel security, corporate security, law enforcement, military, private security, or a similar environment.
- Experience in a luxury hotel or hospitality establishment is an added advantage.
- Basic Security Operations Training.
- First Aid Certification.
