About the role
Bistar Limited is seeking a competent, practical, and field-oriented Geologist to join their technical team. The role involves supporting drilling, borehole, and water-well projects, subsurface investigations, well inspections, and related engineering activities. This is a hands-on position requiring direct work at project sites.
Responsibilities
- Conduct geological and hydrogeological field investigations, site reconnaissance, and subsurface assessments.
- Monitor drilling activities and identify, describe, and document formations encountered.
- Prepare detailed lithological and borehole logs from drilling samples, cuttings, and field observations.
- Carry out or supervise borehole logging, well inspection, and downhole camera surveys.
- Collect, label, and document soil, rock, cutting, and water samples where required.
- Interpret geological, logging, inspection, and survey data and translate findings into practical recommendations.
- Support well construction, development, rehabilitation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain accurate field notes, photographs, coordinates, depth records, equipment readings, and project documentation.
- Work closely with engineers, drillers, technicians, and project managers during field execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Geoscience, or a closely related discipline.
- Preferably 3-7 years of relevant practical experience; exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered.
- Demonstrable experience carrying out geological fieldwork and preparing comprehensive technical reports.
- Experience in water-well/borehole drilling, hydrogeology, geological logging, downhole surveys, geotechnical investigation, or oil & gas field operations is an advantage.
- Relevant professional membership, certification, or postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
- Strong practical field geology, observation, and documentation skills.
- Excellent technical writing ability and meticulous attention to measurements, depths, descriptions, and equipment readings.
- Ability to interpret geological, borehole, and field data and develop technically sound recommendations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently at field locations with limited supervision and collaborate effectively with project teams.
- Willingness to travel and work at project locations as required.
