Role Overview
Beneresa Consulting is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to handle tendering and budgeting tasks. The role involves providing technical and commercial support in preparing tenders, cost estimates, and budgets for mechanical packages and full EPCIC scopes.
Responsibilities
- Analyze ITT, RFP, and bid documents from IOC clients to extract mechanical scope, specifications, and requirements.
- Prepare detailed mechanical cost estimates, including equipment, materials, fabrication, installation, labor, and subcontract packages.
- Develop Bills of Quantities (BOQ), material take-offs, and cost breakdowns for various mechanical works.
- Coordinate with internal disciplines and external vendors/subcontractors to obtain accurate quotations and technical inputs.
- Prepare technical submissions, compliance matrices, and method statements related to mechanical scope.
- Support clarification meetings, site visits, technical presentations, and post-tender negotiations with IOC clients.
- Act as a primary technical interface with IOC client representatives during the tender phase.
- Identify technical risks, opportunities, and value-engineering options during the tender stage.
- Develop project budgets and cost estimates for awarded mechanical scopes.
- Monitor actual costs against budgets during project execution and flag variances.
- Support change order estimation and variation claims with accurate mechanical cost data.
- Review mechanical designs, drawings, datasheets, and vendor documents for compliance with project specifications, codes, and client standards.
- Provide technical input on equipment selection, sizing, and specifications during tender and early project phases.
- Support constructability reviews and installation methodology for mechanical systems.
- Serve as a key point of contact for IOC clients on mechanical technical and commercial matters.
- Work closely with Commercial/Proposal team, Project Controls, Procurement, and Operations.
- Ensure timely handover of tender documentation and assumptions to the project execution team upon award.
- Contribute to lessons-learned sessions and continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, equipment datasheets, and technical specifications.
- Excellent cost estimation and budgeting skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (and preferably estimating software).
- Good understanding of commercial terms, risk assessment, and tender strategy.
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with IOC representatives.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and attention-to-detail abilities.
- Ability to work under tight tender deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, etc.).
