About the role
Geography Teacher
Charryville Academy is seeking a qualified Geography Teacher to join our team. The role involves planning and delivering engaging Geography lessons, assessing student progress, and preparing students for examinations.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Geography lessons in accordance with the school curriculum.
- Teach topics such as physical geography, human geography, environmental studies, map reading, climate, population, and resources.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, assignments, tests, and examinations.
- Assess students’ progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Use maps, charts, technology, fieldwork, and practical activities to enhance learning.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ academic performance and attendance.
- Manage the classroom effectively and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Prepare students for internal and external examinations such as WAEC, NECO, and IGCSE where applicable.
- Participate in departmental meetings, school activities, excursions, and other assigned duties.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding students’ progress.
- Stay updated on modern teaching methods and developments in Geography education.
Requirements
- B.Ed., B.Sc. (Ed.), B.Sc. Geography, or a related qualification from a recognized institution.
- Relevant teaching certification is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2–3 years teaching experience in a reputable primary / secondary school.
- Strong knowledge of Geography and the school curriculum.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Good classroom management skills.
- Ability to simplify complex geographical concepts.
- Ability to use ICT and digital teaching tools.
- Strong assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Creativity and ability to make lessons engaging.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Experience preparing students for WAEC, NECO, IGCSE, or similar examinations is an advantage.
- Fresh graduates with strong teaching ability may also be considered.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, punctuality, and commitment to students' academic development.
- Must be willing to participate in extracurricular activities.
- Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the school’s location.
