Digital Journalist, BBC Hausa

The Digital Journalist will create and publish accurate, engaging, and SEO-friendly news content for the BBC Hausa website. They will also produce and edit short-form video content for social media platforms and contribute to BBC Hausa’s visualised radio programming.

Responsibilities

  • Create and publish accurate, engaging, and SEO-friendly news content for the BBC Hausa website.
  • Produce, present, shoot, and edit short-form video content for platforms including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Develop compelling social media content that drives audience engagement and expands reach.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news and maintain a consistent flow of content across the website and social channels.
  • Use audience analytics to inform content decisions and improve digital output.
  • Contribute to BBC Hausa’s visualised radio programming by presenting on air and on screen.
  • Repurpose live radio and interview content into engaging digital clips.

Requirements

  • Proven experience creating content across digital, social, radio, and video platforms.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills in Hausa with ability to produce SEO-aware content.
  • Strong video production skills, including presenting, self-shooting, and editing.
  • Confident in using audience analytics, headlines, thumbnails, and metadata to optimise content performance.
  • Experience sourcing, verifying, and reporting news accurately and impartially.
  • Strong broadcast skills, including radio production, interviewing, and presenting.
  • Fluent in Hausa and English with understanding of Nigeria and West Africa's political, social, and cultural landscape.
