Cost and Payables Accountant

BPL Nigeria Limited, a battery recycling and lead production company, is seeking an experienced senior Cost & Payables Accountant to manage the Finance & Accounts function at the operational level.

Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Reporting:

• Maintain accurate cost records across all production stages (lead smelting, refining, plate production, plastics processing)
• Prepare detailed Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) analysis covering raw materials, labour, energy, and production overheads
• Analyse standard vs. actual costs and produce variance reports on key inputs
• Monitor yield, wastage, and material recovery rates
• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) and standard costing models
• Provide profitability analysis by product line
• Prepare periodic cost reports for strategic and operational decision-making

Accounts Payable Management:

• Review and process vendor invoices for raw materials, logistics, and utilities
• Ensure accurate three-way matching of invoices against purchase orders and goods-received notes
• Prepare and monitor Accounts Payable ageing reports
• Coordinate payment runs aligned with cashflow priorities
• Manage vendor relationships and resolve invoice discrepancies
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements

General Ledger & Cost Control:

• Post and review cost-related journal entries
• Perform monthly reconciliations for inventory, WIP, and finished goods accounts
• Allocate production overheads accurately
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes
• Maintain data integrity in the company's ERP system (Odoo)

Inventory & Production Monitoring:

• Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
• Track material usage, wastage, and recovery efficiency
• Conduct and support periodic stock counts
• Collaborate with Production, Procurement, and Warehouse teams
• Support cost-reduction and process improvement initiatives

Supervisory & Cross-Functional Responsibilities:

• Supervise and guide the junior accounts officer
• Review work for accuracy and compliance
• Coordinate with Procurement and Logistics teams
• Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulators
• Support Head of Accounts & Finance with management accounts and P&L reviews
• Contribute to process improvements and Odoo utilisation

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum 5–7 years' experience in cost accounting and accounts payable within a manufacturing environment
• At least 2 years in a senior or supervisory capacity
• Demonstrated experience with accounts payable processes, vendor management, and invoice reconciliation
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost control principles, and BOM management
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems
• English proficiency required

Preferred:

• Professional certification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or in progress)
• Prior experience in metals processing, battery recycling, or FMCG manufacturing
• Odoo ERP experience
