About the role

Head, Risk Management

Lead the Risk Management function in a microfinance institution, responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating credit, operational, financial, and compliance risks. This role involves reviewing loan portfolios, evaluating credit risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, developing risk mitigation strategies, and promoting a strong risk management culture.

Responsibilities

  • To constantly review and implement the Bank's risk management framework to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational, credit, financial, and compliance risks.
  • Prepare and present risk reports to Management and the Board, highlighting key risks and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Verify KYC documentation completed by Loan Officers for all loan applications.
  • Review all loan applications and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before recommending them for approval.
  • Ensure the adequacy, authenticity, and enforceability of collateral submitted by customers.
  • Arrange and serve as Secretary to the Management Credit Committee, ensuring proper documentation of meetings and resolutions.
  • Arrange and serve as Secretary to the Portfolio Review Committee.
  • Conduct credit bureau searches on all loan applicants.
  • Monitor the Bank's loan portfolio and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures for delinquent or high-risk accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, CIBN, CRM, or other relevant qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Risk Management, Credit Administration, Internal Control, or a similar role, preferably within a Microfinance Bank.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of risk management principles, credit analysis, and regulatory compliance.
  • Good understanding of microfinance banking operations and lending practices.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
