Senior Quantity Surveyor
The Senior Quantity Surveyor is a full-time, on-site role based in Port Harcourt. This role is responsible for managing all cost-related aspects of construction projects, including preparing bills of quantities, tracking project budgets, and monitoring expenditures throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQ), and tender documentation for new projects.
- Monitor and manage project budgets, providing regular reports on variances and cost-to-complete projections.
- Conduct thorough cost-benefit analyses and value engineering to optimize project profitability.
- Administer construction contracts, ensuring full compliance with legal and organizational terms.
- Manage the procurement process for subcontractors and suppliers, including the negotiation of rates and contractual terms.
- Handle the assessment and settlement of interim valuations and final accounts.
- Liaise closely with site managers and the engineering department to monitor progress against cost and time schedules.
- Perform regular site visits to verify work progress and ensure material usage aligns with budget allocations.
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks that could impact project timelines or margins.
- Provide accurate financial forecasts and cash flow management reports to Management.
- Maintain rigorous document control for all commercial agreements and site variations.
- Ensure all procurement and billing processes are standardized and transparent.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
- Strong cost management capabilities, including Cost Control and Cost Management skills to oversee project budgets and financial performance.
- Proficiency in Cost Planning and Cost Reporting to prepare estimates, forecasts, and regular financial updates for stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with BOQ (Bills of Quantities), including preparation, analysis, and verification for tenders and contracts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; relevant professional certification or membership (e.g., NIQS, RICS) is an advantage.
- Extensive experience in heavy civil engineering or infrastructure projects, preferably in highways, bridges, and large-scale construction works.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with advanced proficiency in MS Excel and quantity surveying or construction cost software.
- Sound knowledge of construction contracts, procurement methods, and contract administration, including claims and variations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work on-site, manage multiple projects, and deliver under tight timelines while adhering to health, safety, and environmental standards.
