About the role

Role Overview

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing reconciliations, supporting budgeting activities, and strengthening financial controls within the microfinance bank.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and process daily financial transactions.
  • Prepare financial statements, management reports, and maintain the general ledger.
  • Monitor income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and capital accounts.
  • Perform bank, customer, loan, and investment reconciliations.
  • Ensure proper documentation and adherence to internal financial controls.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and microfinance banking requirements.
  • Support internal/external audits and preparation of regulatory reports.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and financial analysis.
  • Provide financial insights to support business decisions.
  • Process payments and financial transactions while ensuring proper approvals.
  • Monitor liquidity and identify financial risks or control gaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
  • ACA, ACCA, ICAN, or equivalent certification is an added advantage.
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a microfinance bank, bank, or financial institution.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, regulatory compliance, and Microsoft Excel.
