About the role
College Librarian
The College Librarian is a Principal Officer of the College responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the College Library, its branches in the Schools and Departments, as well as providing services for the entire College Community.
Responsibilities
- Providing overall Library Policy, Personnel contacts and liaising with Departments on book requirements;
- Keeping tab with Global best practice on periodicals, journals, books, and publications relevant to the courses offered in the College as well as professional interests of the College Community;
- Maintaining a database of reputable book vendors for recent and up-to-date editions of books (both hard and / or electronic versions);
- Preparation of Library Budgets;
- Engaging in matters of common interest;
- Responsible to the Provost for the smooth running of the Library of the College.
Requirements
- A good Bachelor's Degree with Masters in Library Science (MLS) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least 15 years cognate experience and registration with Professional Library body or a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science with at least 12 years cognate work experience and evidence of registration with Professional Library body;
- Proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT);
- Present evidence of sound Human Relations, Professional Competence, Industrial Integrity, and Efficient Management of Human and Material Resources;
- Must be Chief Librarian or Deputy College Librarian for a period of not less than five (5) years in a College of Education system;
- Must not be above the age of 59 years at the time of taking up the appointment;
- Candidate must show evidence of substantial contribution to knowledge through Research and scholarly publications in reputable journals equivalent to that of a Chief Lecturer.
