Manager, Loan and Debt Accounting

Oportun is seeking a Manager, Loan and Debt Accounting to oversee the day-to-day accounting activities related to Oportun’s loan portfolio and debt. This role will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies. The position also involves leading key aspects of the monthly close process, managing and developing accounting team members, and partnering across teams to improve efficiency and scalability.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting activities for Oportun’s loan portfolio and debt, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately.
• Lead the month-end close process for loan- and debt-related accounts, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Supervise, coach, and develop accounting team members.
• Strengthen accounting processes and internal controls by identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with Finance, Technology, and other teams to implement process improvements and automation solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting guidance.
• Experience with loan, lending, debt, or other financial-services-related accounting activities.
• Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing accounting professionals.
• Experience with internal controls and accounting process improvements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to use AI-enabled tools responsibly.

Salary $91,500 - $146,400 annually (US salary range)
