About the role

English Language / Literacy Teacher

The Literacy Teacher at Discovering Talents Academy is responsible for delivering engaging and effective literacy instruction to primary school pupils. This role involves fostering a deep understanding of reading, writing, and language arts, developing critical thinking skills, and nurturing a lifelong love for literature.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging literacy lessons in accordance with DTA's blended British-Nigerian curriculum and academic standards.
  • Implement DTA's SHRID niche, particularly focusing on Love for Reading, Nelson Handwriting, and Diction.
  • Apply individualized teaching strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and needs in literacy.
  • Integrate skill acquisition in areas such as comprehension, phonics, grammar, and creative writing.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technology to make literacy accessible and enjoyable.
  • Set clear learning objectives and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations.
  • Design and administer assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and grades.
  • Prepare comprehensive progress reports for parents.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
  • Encourage active participation and collaborative activities.
  • Monitor the academic and social-emotional well-being of students.
  • Provide individualized support and interventions for students who require additional assistance.
  • Collaborate with parents, support staff, and other teachers.
  • Serve as a Form Tutor/Class Teacher as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and develop curriculum materials.
  • Contribute to school events and activities.
  • Use DTA software for academic tracking, communication, and appraisal processes.
  • Adhere to all DTA policies and procedures.
