About the role

Hospital Matron

Joy Hospital & Maternity Centre is seeking a competent, experienced, and highly responsible Hospital Matron to provide effective clinical and administrative leadership across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership and supervision to nursing and midwifery staff.
  • Coordinate daily nursing and maternity operations within the facility.
  • Ensure high standards of patient care, safety, hygiene, and infection prevention.
  • Supervise staff performance, attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct.
  • Prepare and coordinate duty rosters and ensure adequate staffing coverage.
  • Monitor nursing documentation, patient records, reports, and clinical procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with nursing, midwifery, and hospital policies and professional standards.
  • Support the implementation of clinical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate patient care with doctors, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Monitor the availability and proper use of medical supplies and equipment within the nursing department.
  • Identify staff training needs and support continuous professional development.
  • Handle patient and staff concerns professionally and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Prepare and submit regular departmental reports to management.
  • Ensure the maternity and nursing units maintain a clean, safe, organised, and professional environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Midwife (RM), or Double Qualified (RN/RM).
  • Minimum of 2 years post-clinical experience.
  • Valid and current professional licence.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a hospital or maternity setting is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing and maternity care procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, discipline, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a healthcare team.
