A Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathe machines to produce precision parts. The role involves performing various machining operations, ensuring quality control, and following safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Machine Setup: Install chucks, tools, bushings, and gears to prepare the lathe.
• Operation: Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, and drilling.
• Quality Control: Measure finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and precision gauges to verify dimensions against blueprints.
• Maintenance: Clean equipment, replace worn cutting tools, and perform routine preventative maintenance.
• Safety: Follow shop safety rules, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and report malfunctions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED; technical or ITI certification in mechanical fields is often preferred.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and work instructions.
• Basic math, mechanical aptitude, and familiarity with measuring tools.
• 2 to 6 years of hands-on experience operating manual or CNC lathe machinery.
