About the role
Assistant Accountant
The Assistant Branch Accountant is responsible for branch accounting, financial controls, reconciliations, and cash operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records, process transactions, and support timely month-end closing and reconciliations.
- Reconcile sales, cash, bank, POS, receivables, payables, and inter-branch balances, escalating discrepancies promptly.
- Support stock reconciliation, inventory counts, variance analysis, and documentation of financial exceptions.
- Prepare financial reports, audit schedules, tax documentation, and other Finance reports while ensuring compliance with company policies.
Requirements
- B.Sc./HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline with a minimum of Second Class Lower/Upper Credit.
- 1–3 years’ experience in accounting, preferably within retail, distribution, consumer electronics, FMCG, or a similar environment.
- Good knowledge of accounting principles, reconciliations, cash management, AR/AP, inventory control, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software; Odoo experience and ICAN/ACCA/ANAN certification or professional studies are an advantage.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Close attention to detail, accuracy, integrity, and strong internal-control awareness.
- Good communication, organisation, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Finance, Operations, and other business functions.
