About the role

The National Sales Manager is responsible for leading and managing the pharmaceutical sales function across Nigeria to achieve revenue, market share, and profitability objectives. This role involves developing and executing national sales strategies, leading regional sales teams, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute national sales strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives.
  • Lead, coach, and manage Regional Sales Managers, Area Sales Managers, and Medical Representatives to achieve sales targets.
  • Establish annual, quarterly, and monthly sales targets and monitor performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Analyze sales trends, market intelligence, competitor activities, and prescribing patterns to identify growth opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), hospitals, pharmacies, distributors, healthcare institutions, and major accounts.
  • Collaborate with various teams to implement effective product launches and promotional campaigns.
  • Ensure effective territory coverage and optimal deployment of the sales force.
  • Monitor product performance and recommend strategies to increase market penetration.
  • Prepare accurate sales forecasts, budgets, and business performance reports.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop high-performing sales teams.
  • Conduct regular field visits to coach sales representatives and evaluate customer engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry codes of ethics, and applicable pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Manage national sales budgets and optimize resource utilization.
  • Drive customer-focused initiatives that improve customer satisfaction and long-term partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Life Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification in Business Management or Marketing is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 4–8 years of pharmaceutical sales experience.
  • At least 2–4 years in a senior sales leadership role managing multiple regions or nationwide sales operations.
  • Proven success in leading large pharmaceutical sales teams and consistently achieving sales targets.
  • Experience managing prescription medicines, OTC products, specialty products, vaccines, or hospital portfolios is desirable.
  • Experience working with distributors and institutional accounts is an advantage.

Salary

  • Salary Plus Commission above 600k
